Stefan Kohmann is an internationally active performer in the field of contemporary music. As a soloist and chamber music player, he appeared in numerous festivals around the world: Hamburger Musikfest, Gaudeamus (Holland), PASIC (USA), Fadjir Festival (Iran), Seoul Drum Festival (Korea), Taipeh Percussion Festival (Taiwan), Osterfestspiele Tirol (Austria), Berliner Festwochen, Musica Viva München, Roaring Hoofs (Mongolia), Salzburg Biennale and Wien Modern, to name a few.
Stefan Kohmann has worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Dieter Schnebel, Philip Glass and many others composers. His percussion group “Anthos” was awarded with 1. price of the Stockhausen Foundation of Music for it’s outstanding interpretation of “Mikrophonie I”, composed by Stockhausen.
Stefan has held teaching positions at the Conservatory of Music and Theatre, Rostock and the Conservatory of the Arts, Bremen. In the recent past he was head of percussion at the Royal Guard in the Sultanate of Oman.
In addition to his teaching positions, Stefan has held workshops and masterclasses at Northwestern University (Chicago), Bayerische Theaterakademie (Munich), Gitis Conservatory of Acting (Moscow), Fadjr-Festival (Teheran), Royal Academy of Music (Aarhus/ Denmark).
Stefan Kohmann has studied orchestral and contemporary percussion at the Conservatory of Music and Theatre, Hannover (Germany) and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Ohio/ USA).
